Pacesaver Fusion,  Small to mid-sized Mobility Scooter.  Rating, graphic bullet stargraphic bullet stargraphic bullet stargraphic bullet star
Recommended use,  Outdoors / Indoors

Updated 8-22-2007: We have been testing the Fusion for several months now without a single problem or real complaint. We even used it in our local 4th of July parade and the Fusion handled the 5 mile run better then any other piece of equipment we used.

The Pacesaver Fusion was designed to be used indoors and out, and combines the two roles better then any scooter I have tried.  Fantastic indoor maneuverability and the ability to handle fairly rough lawns in one package is something most scooters can only dream about.

We have all been testing the Fusion and everyone is impressed. From zipping around the office, to bouncing across the back lawn this scooter will do it, We have driven it up hills and steep ramps without any sign of tilting backwards. You can even safely turn tight enough to keep a rear wheel on a man hole cover while you go around in circles, but you get really dizzy if you lean down to watch it.

You have to try the Fusion yourself or watch Pacesaver's video before you will believe the capabilities. Click the link and then click on "Watch the video", use your back button to return here. http://www.pacesaver.com/

The 45.5" length is a little longer than smaller scooters, but combined with the drive wheels being centered under the user and narrow width this scooter will go almost anywhere. The down side to the drive wheel position is it gives a shorter wheel base resulting in a little rougher ride. Not a bad trade off.

At this time the Fusion comes in two models. First has a 250 lbs weight limit, 45.5" overall length and 20" width. The second has a 350 lbs weight limit 45.5" overall length and 22" width. I am told they are also going to be producing a model that is 3" longer for the taller user.

The tire size is 2.5 x 9" on the 250 lb model, 3" x 9" on the 350 lb model. Standard tires are pneumatic but flat free foam filled tires are available. The spring loaded rear anti-tippers help keep the scooter stable without the jarring bump of most anti-tippers.

The seat is 18" wide and 18" deep for comfort and swivels for transfers. To swivel the seat you pull the lever on the right side towards the rear of the chair, to lock the seat you push it towards the front of the chair. The seat is available in vinyl or velvet material.

The armrest are width adjustable out to about 22" between the arms and flip-up for easy transfers.

The Passport Fusion disassembles into 6 pieces including batteries for transport or most trunk type lifts will handle it with ease. Heaviest piece weighs about 47 to 49 pounds depending on model.

Top speed is 5 mph and range is roughly 20 miles under ideal conditions. Like all scooters and powerchairs, real life conditions range is half to 2/3 the ideal.

One thing I can not say enough about is the thought put into ease of use on Pacesaver scooters. The front tiller is very easily adjusted towards or away from the user without having to bend over to far possibly causing a fall. If you look closely at the photo above you can see the lever on the rear of the tiller about even with the top of the basket.

The same thought went into recharging the batteries with the charging port being on the rear of the tiller a little above the tiller adjustment handle.

Another good point of all Pacesaver scooters and powerchairs is that they are completely made in the USA.
Seat upholstery fabric is from North Carolina.
Controls from Illinois.
Steel components from Texas.
Frames from Kansas and Missouri.
Plastic from Kansas.
Motors from Michigan.
Transaxles from New York.
Brakes from Connecticut.
Assembly is in Kansas.

While not as cheap as many mobility scooters on the market, I feel it is the best value. Let my put it this way, if any member of my family needs a scooter, this will be the model I get them.
